Wine Wednesday: Italian Wine Date Night

My first Wine Wednesday post! Last Friday, we went out to dinner to a little Italian restaurant called La Campania in Waltham, MA. A couple co-workers of mine have told me great things about this place, but I haven’t tried it myself until now! It’s a cozy restaurant which makes you feel extremely comfortable (and excited to eat) the instant you walk in. We got there early on Friday – like senior discount type early – we were hungry! From the time we walked in, people shuttled in behind us, and now I can see why. The food was delicious, the atmosphere friendly, the staff incredibly fun, and the wine smooth and relaxing!

We purposely came to the restaurant on Friday because we knew we wanted pasta and were probably going to have a mix of meats, cheeses, pasta, and intense flavors. They seated us at the dessert bar seats, which was perfect for watching all the plating and artistry – while also making you want the dessert you said you wouldn’t have tonight! We ordered this Villadoria Barolo, 2010, to go with our appetizers and our first course. It was so smooth, flavorful, and full of body. I’ve never had this wine before and cannot wait to find this wine again. It paired perfectly with our meats & cheeses, arancini, and the mushroom flatbread.  I need to look to see if I can get it anywhere else local – stay tuned!

Dinner is always more delicious with a Barolo

After the first bottle, we were still finishing our dinner and eyeing the chocolate souffle (which we should have ordered when we ordered our main meal). We wanted some more wine, but wanted one that could take us from dinner to dessert – this one did not disappoint!  It was the right level of sweet/fruity that worked well with our savory pasta AND with our sweet chocolate dessert.  Definitely perfect transition wine!

Delicious Tuscan to bring us from dinner to dessert

This is a short post – Wine Wednesday has been a tiring day! More to come!
